Picture #11: The River Tay gradually widening and flowing
Eastwards away from Friarton, Perth.

The Silvery Tay meanders away from Perth towards Dundee

The River Tay rises from Loch Tay near Ben Lawers and Aberfeldy. It widens to become the centre of the three great Scottish east coast firths or wide estuaries. It is often referred to as the "Silvery Tay" due to the sun or moon shining on numerous banks of sand or shallows that glint and sparkle back. The Tay's tidal nature allows the inland City of Perth to be used as an active seaport too.
